In a strange marketing twist that it probably didn’t need MySpace has decided to hold a competition. The competition is for those in the UK and the prize is a chance to direct a £1,000,000 movie to be released in 2008. Short films will be submitted by entrants and then finalists will be chosen by filmmakers. Then the finalists are subjected to user votes a la American Idol.

They’re holding this competition in conjunction with Vertigo Films and the contest runs up until April 27. For some reason the combination of MySpace, user votes, the current quality of movies and possibly my general pessimism makes me think all we’ll get is another Uwe Boll. Come next year though, I’ll probably be sitting here waiting to torrent the sucker.
