The first prize winner of the Nokia Open cell-phone concept competition was announced, and it looks like a prop from a science fiction movie. Designed by Hugo Danti, a talented graphic artist from Spain, this hi-tech mobile device features everything from a foldable, scrollable, touch-screen display to an adjustable screen size, allowing several space-management options for visual media, video conferencing, and internet browsing.

The button in the middle of the unit acts as a context-sensitive key that can be used to change between the phone’s different functions and more than likely will have access to commands ranging from basic phone control to video playback options and web navigation controls. The actual display technology, according to Danti, would be an LCD screen that has similar attributes to e-paper and rollable displays, and would probably feature some of the same advantages like bistable pixels (the image stays even without power) and normal paper-like light reflection (less power would be needed for a backlight, since the screen is essentially like a piece of printed paper).

Danti also designed a wristband that would be an appealing and practical compliment to the phone. Built with a small screen that can receive and display images from the main phone unit via Bluetooth or simply show a clock face, the wristband could become a fashion statement in its own right. As far as further functionality goes, the wristband would also personalize incoming calls by utilizing color graphics assigned to different family members, friend, coworkers and unknown calls.

As Danti puts it (pardon his English):
Instead of assigning a diferent tune to recognize an incoming call of a family member, friend, work collegues or unknown calls, a color graphic would do this job. Hot colors could be for persons with whom there is an emotive relation and cold colors for strangers or buiseness partners.
While the price of the Emotive Phone concept hasn’t been officially announced, Portable Device Market Analyst Adam Kovic has estimated a price of at least $10.
