Opposable Thumbs just posted a great look into the seedy under belly that is technology, apathy and stupidity. Particular companies prey on the innocent, giving sacrifice to their lord and master, Satan, in hopes that people will skip any research whatsoever and buy the first thing flung in their face.
Here is a quick list that Opposable Thumbs provided for pricing on HDMI cables:
As you can see getting your coveted HDMI cable doesn’t have to be as bad as mom said it would. But I’m still going to rant anyway:
Enter the new world of HD, this years new buzzword. People talk about it like its the second coming of Jesus yet have no idea what 720p means. I’ve tried explaining it to friends, family and a special lady friend, but it really comes down to either you get it or you don’t. So when you throw out a new word out there like HDMI, people’s heads either systemically explode or they mess themselves in an explosion of pure geek goo. Hit the jump for more ranting.

HDMI might sound fancy and expensive but the reality is you don’t have to spend a bundle to get simplicity it offers. The truth is when you buy your cables from Monster, you are paying 80% more than you have to since you can get the same cables from a trusted retailer like Apple. In the end it comes down to the fat cats enjoying rape, enjoying it so much they will do whatever they can to make sure your little ass cherry is as used as Grandpa Joe’s 1959 Bel-Air. Yes I know, the truth hurts so do yourself a favor and buy your HD accessories online. Your ass depends on it.

I couldn’t agree more. They should’ve added eBay to that list, I know I just got a 9′ HDMI cable for less than $15. I’m really surprised that Apple offers one at a reasonable price.

Just got 3 ft on Ebay for $6.94 (includes Shipping). Taking my $140 monster cables back to Circuit City tonight. I feel so dirty. Dirty bad, not dirty good.

When I used to work at Fry’s Electronics, I got a 12 ft DVI cable for my friend’s LCD computer monitor discounted for about $3. The store was, of course, selling it for $29.99. Now that’s what I call a margin!
